Tessa TS #3
Student: Wei Wang
Date/Time: November 6th, 4-5pm
Location: Dirac Library
Topic: Speaking practice
Feedback provided to tutee: For this session we focused more on free speaking to practice Wei’s fluidity and fluency in speaking. What I did notice during this session was that Wei often made the mistake of mistaking gender pronouns. She would often confuse “she” and “he”, although she would notice her mistake and correct herself which is very good. We also talked a lot about the election, given that is a very prevalent topic right now. This was also a great topic of conversation as we got to talk a lot about American culture and cultural differences between American and Chinese politics and ideals.
Lessons about tutoring you learned: This free speaking session allowed me to see the importance of letting her speak without interrupting and allowing her to fully form her thoughts. I also found myself asking some clarifying questions after she would finish some sentences, and this allowed her to reiterate what she was trying to say. This is a really important component of fluency, and this session really highlighted this for me.
