Tutoring session #19: December 11 3pm

Topic/Skill: Networking in academic spaces
Feedback provided to the tutee: First I created a transcript with highlights for the student to read with two people in a networking situation, discussing their goals and prior experience. The feedback I provided was pointing out why those words highlighted are important as they were vocabulary words such as position, internship, studied etc. Then I asked comprehension questions. Then we practiced a role play activity where we practiced me being a professor and him asking them to work on research. The feedback I provided him was immediate grammar correction and offering more higher level vocabulary.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: The lesson I learned was the importance of pronunciation focus. As Miguel really wants to start researching at Florida State I was more than happy to ease his concerns about not appearing professional due to his accent and pronunciation. Therefore we had a lot of repetition of the same model we created for him to practice.
